Since 2004, our forestry partner, Better Globe Forestry Ltd, has been leading the way in dryland afforestation, soil and water conservation, micro-credit services, and more. This holistic approach—combining poverty alleviation and reforestation in semi-arid regions—truly distinguishes them on a global scale.

Their efforts not only mitigate the effects of climate change across the Horn of Africa but also boost sustainable farming practices. 2 Million Trees Planted in 4 Years

In 2018, Better Globe Forestry Ltd expanded its operations to Uganda’s Dokolo district, planting Melia azedarach trees—closely related to the Melia volkensii species successfully grown in Kenya. Both are types of Mahogany trees.

Within just four years, more than 2 million trees have taken root, supported by agreements with over 15,000 partner farmers. Each farmer receives thorough training in tree cultivation and care, ensuring the saplings thrive throughout their 15-year growth cycle. This forward-looking approach fosters meaningful, long-term environmental benefits and strengthens communities for generations to come.

Determining How Many Trees to Sponsor

Calculating your company’s carbon emissions can be complex, and different tools may yield different results. As a general guideline, the average person is responsible for about 7 tons of CO2 each year. Better Globe Forestry's data indicates that two Mahogany trees can capture about 1 ton of CO2 over a 15-year growth period. To offset the emissions of one person for one year, 14 trees would be required.
